A Message From the Conference Chair Paul Speaker

Dear Colleague:

I’m honored to be the chairperson for “Magazines 24/7:  Video,” the MPA's first conference dedicated to video.

For the past several years, magazine content has successfully migrated from the page to the web and other digital platforms.  Along the way, video began to emerge as a new and exciting way for our journalists to tell their stories and engage their audience.  Many of our reporters and editors dropped their pens and notebooks, and picked up camcorders and editing software.  They became producers, directors and even on-camera talent.  Our sales teams started selling time as well as space, and words like “pre-roll” and “non-linear video overlay ad” crept into their vocabulary.  And ultimately, our readers turned into our viewers. 

I know because as President of Time Inc. Digital Studios, I work with a variety of Time Inc.’s brands to transform their story telling into video, using sites, sounds and motions to bring these stories to life.  

This conference exists because of the growing need for magazine publishers to leverage this powerful platform.  Video allows magazines to extend their reach, increase digital ad dollars and boost the overall stickiness of their websites.  We hope you’ll return from the conference back to your desks – or editing bays! – with insightful case studies, inventive ideas and useful information.
