New York, NY (April 16, 2008)—A total of 11 nominees are eligible to win the Magazine Publishers of America (MPA) Magazine Mentor of the Year Award, which recognizes a member of the community who has aided a fellow magazine professional’s career and promoted inclusion in the industry, it was announced today by Shaunice Hawkins, VP of Diversity & Multicultural Initiatives, MPA. The winner will be announced at a special awards breakfast on June 5, in New York City.

The 2008 Magazine Mentor of the Year nominees are:

• Mimi Valdes Ryan, Editor-in-Chief, Latina

The Magazine Mentor of the Year Award will celebrate the best candidate who challenges all within his or her sphere of influence to create meaningful change and positive social impact within the magazine industry and beyond; promotes a better understanding and valuing of inclusion and equity within the magazine industry; has made a personal commitment to developing the next generation of magazine leaders; and whose contributions and strong leadership serve as examples for all who would mirror his/her career path.
