ASME TO SPONSOR 2017 SCHOLARSHIP AT YALE PUBLISHING COURSE

March 23, 2017

The American Society of Magazine Editors is pleased to announce that applications are now being accepted for the ASME full-tuition scholarship at the 2017 Yale Publishing Course: Leadership Strategies in Magazine Media. The course will be held July 23-28, 2017, at the Yale School of Management in New Haven, Connecticut.

“ASME members have long benefited from attending the Yale Publishing Course—this is the sixth year ASME has sponsored a scholarship for the program,” said Sid Holt, chief executive of ASME. “Now that YPC is partnering with the Yale School of Management, the value of the course will only grow. For editorial leaders hoping to develop the new kinds of skills required to manage the continuing transformation of magazine media, YPC is the place to start.”

Past ASME YPC scholarship winners include Eliza Borné (editor, Oxford American), Ann Taylor Pittman (executive editor of food, Cooking Light), Margarita Bertsos (deputy editor, Dr. Oz THE GOOD LIFE), Dennis Lewon (editor in chief, Backpacker) and Jennifer Owens (editor, Spring.St, formerly of Working Mother).

The newly formed partnership between Yale Publishing Course (YPC) and the Yale School of Management (SOM) promises to enrich the learning experience. “YPC alums have always rated the presentations from SOM faculty as tremendously beneficial,” said program director Tina C. Weiner. “This partnership with SOM will allow us to strengthen our focus on leadership training and managing decision-making, strategic planning, innovation and team building. Combining the research and teaching skills of SOM’s distinguished faculty with the real-world experience offered by leading industry experts will provide an even broader perspective on magazine media.”

The Yale Publishing Course will continue to tackle timely issues facing magazine media, giving attendees an inside look at lessons learned by industry leaders as well as forward-looking approaches to publishing as a global enterprise. This year the course will add lectures by Yale faculty on leadership, innovation and marketing. Participants in YPC will also benefit from Yale SOM’s state-of-the-art facility—the Norman Foster-designed Edward P. Evans Hall—and its expertise in presenting executive education programs.

Applications for the 2017 Course are now being accepted: July 23–28, 2017 (Magazine Media) and July 30–August 4, 2017 (Book Publishing).

The deadline to apply for the ASME scholarship is May 1, 2017. Only ASME members or editors working for them are eligible to receive this full-tuition scholarship. Complete the application here.
