The book world has seen its share of magazine editors-turned authors. Some of their books are extensions of their magazine's brand, others are extensions of well-received magazine features, and still others are mystery novels.
But what's it really like to write a book while you work at a magazine? ASME NEXT presents a panel of editors who have first-hand experience juggling the demands of a magazine, with the demands of book agents, publishers, and editors.
Our panelists:
Gary Belsky is editor-in-chief of ESPN The Magazine. His book credits include Why Smart People Make Big Money Mistakes and How to Correct Them: Lessons from the New Science of Behavioral Economics and 23 Ways to Get to First Base: The ESPN Uncyclopedia.
Ryan D'Agostino is the articles editor at Esquire. His book Rich Like Them: My Door-to-Door Search for the Secrets of Wealth in America's Richest Neighborhoods was released this month.
Kate Torgovnick is the author of Cheer!: Inside the Secret World of College Cheerleaders, which was inspired by reporting done for a feature she wrote about cheerleading while working as an editor at Jane.
Kate White is editor-in-chief of Cosmopolitan and the author of the Bailey Weggins mystery novels, including the forthcoming Lethally Blond.
