National Magazine Awards 2011

The National Magazine Awards honor magazines, published in print and on digital platforms, that consistently demonstrate superior execution of editorial objectives, innovative techniques, noteworthy journalistic enterprise and imaginative art direction. Established in 1966, the awards are sponsored by the American Society of Magazine Editors in association with Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism.

This year the awards for General Excellence are changing. In previous years, General Excellence, Print, was presented in six categories based solely on circulation; in 2011, the awards will be presented in six categories determined by content, audience, frequency and circulation. In addition, General Excellence, Digital Media, will be presented in two categories based on content and audience. Other changes include new category names and descriptions for two of the four photography awards and a new award for mobile editions.

DEADLINES
The deadline for categories 1 to 21 (Print and Print-Online Awards) and category M1 (Magazine of the Year) is 5:00 p.m., Thursday, January 6, 2011. Late entries in these categories will be accepted until 5:00 p.m., Monday, January 10, subject to a $200 late fee per entry. Entries received after January 10 will not be accepted.

The deadline for categories D1 to D12 (Digital Media Awards) is 5:00 p.m., Tuesday, January 11, 2011. Late entries in these categories will be accepted until 5:00 p.m., Thursday, January 13, subject to a $200 late fee per entry. Entries received after January 13 will not be accepted.

ENTRY FEES
Publications that are MPA members or whose chief editor is an ASME member:
Categories 1-6; D1 and D2; M1: $400 per entry
Categories 7-21; D3-D12: $300 per entry

Publications that are not MPA members or whose chief editor is not an ASME member:
Categories 1-6; D1 and D2; M1: $450 per entry
Categories 7-21; D3-D12: $350 per entry

Entries must be paid in full by before February 15, 2011; entries will otherwise be deemed ineligible. You may pay by credit card online when entering, or you may send a check to: American Society of Magazine Editors, 810 Seventh Avenue, 24th Floor, New York, NY 10019. Please make checks out to National Magazine Awards/ASME.

EVENTS

• The National Magazine Awards for Digital Media will be held in conjunction with the MPA Digital Conference, presented at the Hilton New York on March 16, 2011
• The National Magazine Awards Annual Gala will be presented at 583 Park Avenue on May 9, 2011
