Government Affairs

In addition to our activities in Government Affairs, Advertising Marketing & Research and Consumer Marketing, MPA serves its members in other vital ways, including:

Independent Magazine Group

Now in its sixth year, IMAG is a fully-integrated community of independent publishers created by MPA, to serve the particular needs of smaller and mid-sized magazines with targeted programs and services. The group has a dedicated section on the MPA website (www.magazine.org/indy) and events and seminars tailored to the community, such as the annual Independent Magazine Conference, Independents’ Day at the American Magazine Conference, and “TGIF” webinars.

Training and Events

MPA offers dozens of seminars, forums, workshops and conferences for all levels of industry professionals across all lines of business. In 2008, MPA debuted Magazines 24/7: Video – the world's first conference dedicated to exploring online video opportunities for the magazine industry. MPA also launched a series of webinars for independent publishers called “TGIF Webinar Series.”

Communications Platforms

MPA’s Communications Platforms division has oversight of the MPA website (www.magazine.org), the Information Center, corporate publications and all public and press relations outreach on behalf of the association and the consumer magazine industry.

The website, redesigned in 2008, offers an unparalleled amount of research and other content pertinent to the magazine business. The site also offers members-only content such as industry surveys and topic-specific e-newsletters. Members are encouraged to register for an account on the website, to access all those exclusive content and to be able to register for MPA events and seminars online.

In 2008 , the Communications Platforms division launched the MPA Daily News Roundup email newsfeed exclusively for members featuring the latest magazine industry-specific headlines, along with relevant announcements and highlights from MPA and its member companies. The News Roundup also includes original articles commissioned by MPA for the Roundup. Archives are available at www.magazine.org/daily.

The Information Center maintains an extensive library that houses historical and current industry information. The Info Center responds to dozens of requests from member publishers on the pressing issues of the day, with magazine digital initiatives, print advertising effectiveness, and historical trends about the industry as the most popular topics.
