MPA Survey of First Quarter Magazine Launch Announcements Finds 75 Consumer Magazines Slated to Be Published

New York, NY (May 3, 2005)Seventy-five magazine launches were announced in the first quarter of 2005, according to research conducted by Magazine Publishers of America (MPA).  They range in focus and type from magazines dedicated to heritage and culture, to titles that target niche affluent markets. The new titles include: five shopping magazines, five shelter magazines, four fashion magazines, 16 magazines targeting women, eight titles targeting the affluent market as well as a 12 titles aimed at males. 

 

These announcements demonstrate the incredible vitality, energy and creativity that characterize our business, noted Nina Link, President and CEO, MPA.  It shows that we are an industry that constantly reinvents itself to serve the evolving needs of its readers and advertisers.

           

Spin-offs are big this year, with 4 versions of popular existing titles aiming at the Hispanic market in the U.S. for the first time (7 titles in all are aimed at the Hispanic market so far).

MPA consistently tracks new launches to benefit advertisers, publishers and consumers.   Advertisers often seek the latest information about new magazines in order to place advertising in the coveted first issue.  Publishers look for detailed editorial descriptions about new titles competing in their space.   Consumers search the New and Noted for magazines covering their passions.
