New York, NY (March 13, 2006)—Frank Moss, Director of the fabled Media Laboratory at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), will keynote Magazine Publishers of Americas (MPA) next digital conference Magazines 24/7: Profiting in the Digital Age. The conference will be held April 26, 2006, at the Sheraton New York.
The Lab, which is entering its third decade, has focused on studying, inventing and applying advanced digital technologies to dramatically improve the world in which we live. It has conducted groundbreaking work in such areas as electronic ink; wireless, viral networks; wearable computing; and holographic video. The Lab currently is focusing on technologies that will improve the quality of life by augmenting human capabilities and enabling computers to relate to people on more "human" terms.
At the conference, Moss will talk about the Media Labs work and its vision of technology over the next 20 years. He will describe how new social, creative and learning networks will arise from computers that can relate to people on more human terms. Finally, he will talk about how these new networks will disrupt content creation and delivery, presenting publishers with new challenges and opportunities in reaching readers.
Prior to joining MITs Media Laboratory, Moss had a 25-year career as an entrepreneur and technology executive. He built and ran a diverse set of companies on the leading edge of technology, including start-ups and large public companies and spanning the high technology and biotechnology industries. He served as CEO and chairman of Tivoli Systems Inc., a pioneer in the distributed systems management field, which merged with IBM in 1996. He also co-founded several other companies, including Stellar Computer Inc., a developer of graphic supercomputers; Bowstreet Inc., a pioneer in web services; and Infinity Pharmaceuticals, an early-stage cancer drug discovery company. Moss brings to the Media Lab a deep understanding of how businesses evaluate and commercialize technology, as well as how they bring innovative technology products to market and manage complex technical organizations.
Registration fees for Magazines 24/7 begin at $495. Additional keynoters, panels and speakers will be announced in the near future. For more information, visit www.magazine.org/digitalconference.
