New York, NY (May 3, 2004) Shaunice Hawkins has been named Director, Diversity Development, Magazine Publishers of America, it was announced today by Nina Link, President & CEO, MPA.
This is an important new fulltime position for MPA, said Ms. Link. The development of diversity initiatives in the publishing industry has been recognized as a key priority by the Boards of both MPA and American Society of Magazine Editors.
Among her responsibilities, Ms. Hawkins will help college graduates of diverse backgrounds find careers in the magazine industry through ambassador and internship programs. She will also work in partnership with MPAs Professional Development Department and MPAs Human Resources Committee to retain a diverse workforce in the industry by developing training programs for all levels of magazine employees. Additionally, Ms. Hawkins will support MPA member companies with their diversity efforts by providing information, research and resources. She will be based in New York and report to Michael Pashby, EVP, General Manager, MPA.
Shaunice has a wide range of experience developing strategies for issues related to diversity, performance and retention, said Mr. Pashby. We are thrilled that she will be joining our team and working closely with our member companies.
Prior to joining MPA, she worked for three years at Prudential Securities Inc., a division of Wachovia Securities LLC, as Corporate Relationship Manager of Diversity and Workforce Effectiveness. She was responsible for building organizational culture, integrating diversity strategies into the firms annual goals and strengthening partnerships across lines of business. Previously, Ms. Hawkins served as Mediator for the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission and Trainer/Facilitator for the New York City Department of Employment Internship Development Program. She is an adjunct professor for the State University of New Yorks Empire State College, where she teaches labor and employee relations.
Ms. Hawkins is a graduate of New York University, St. Johns University, Cornell University, and Tulane University with degrees and certifications in a variety of human resources and business administration curricula. She is professionally affiliated with the Society of Human Resources Management and its Global Forum, the National Human Resources Association, the Organization Development Network, and the National Association of Female Executives.
