Sid Holt has been named Chief Executive of the American Society of Magazine Editors (ASME) it was announced today by David Willey, President of ASME and Editor-in-Chief, Runner's World. In this newly created position, Mr. Holt will assume the leadership of the editorial service organization. Mr. Holt will be based in New York and report to the ASME Board of Directors. Marlene Kahan will report to Mr. Holt in her continuing role as Executive Director, ASME.
Mr. Holt will be charged with growing the ASME membership, increasing professional development programs that serve magazine editors and helping editorial leaders address the challenges of a rapidly changing media landscape. He will speak on behalf of ASME on issues and topics that affect editors, journalists and magazine content. Mr. Holt will also spearhead efforts to broaden ASME participation by the digital magazine community.

"Over the course of his career, Sid has produced award-winning magazines, covered all aspects of the magazine business as a journalist, and led editorial teams onto new platforms and into the future. In unanimously voting to create this new position for him, the ASME board recognized how uniquely suited Sid is to lead us in new directions while continuing to champion editorial excellence, independence, and integrity in print and online. Marlene Kahan's three decades of service, passion for magazines, and knowledge of the ASME community will be more indispensable than ever in all of these efforts."
Mr. Holt has extensive experience in magazines and digital media. From 1990 to 1997, he was Managing Editor of Rolling Stone, and was named Vice President of Wenner Media Inc. in 1995. During his tenure, Rolling Stone won National Magazine Awards for General Excellence, Reporting and Photography. As Executive Vice President and Editor-in-Chief of Adweek Magazines from 1998 to 2004, Mr. Holt oversaw the print and digital editions of Adweek, Brandweek, Mediaweek and Editor & Publisher, and supervised more than 120 editors and reporters. In 2005, he was promoted to Editorial Director of Nielsen Business Media, where he led more than 40 publications, including Billboard and The Hollywood Reporter. Mr. Holt joined go2 Media, a leading publisher of content for the mobile web, as chief editor in 2007.
The American Society of Magazine Editors (ASME) is a non-profit professional organization for editors of print and online magazines, which are edited, published and distributed in the U.S. Established in 1963, ASME currently has about 900 members nationwide. Among other things, ASME provides an opportunity for magazine editors to network with their peers. ASME also administers the National Magazine Awards, works to preserve editorial independence and speaks out on public policy issues, particularly those pertaining to the First Amendment.
