Call for Entries:

ASME PRESENTS
BEST COVER CONTEST 2007

Building on the success of Magazine 40/40 and last years Best Cover Contest, The American Society of Magazine Editors (ASME) is pleased to announce the Best Cover Contest 2007.

A panel composed of magazine editors, design directors, art directors and photo editors will name the top cover (based on excellence in design/creativity, not on circulation figures) in the following categories:

• COVER OF THE YEAR

• BEST CELEBRITY COVER
  Entries must portray an entertainment or sports celebrity (or celebrities) as the main subject
  
• BEST NEWS COVER
  Entries must represent news stories in the areas of business, entertainment, sports, politics and world affairs

• BEST FASHION COVER
  Entries must feature fashion as the central concept

• BEST CONCEPT COVER
  Entries must showcase a specially produced photograph or illustration that expresses an idea or concept

• BEST SERVICE COVER
  Entries must be from magazines that focus on personal service or leisure interests (i.e. health, relationships, food, decorating, travel, crafts, parenting, the arts, sports enthusiasts)

The judges will also give special recognition to the years BEST COVERLINE.

The deadline for submissions is August 10, 2007. The winning magazine covers will be announced at a special presentation at the American Magazine Conference, which takes place in Boca Raton, Florida, October 28-30.  The conference, a premier industry event attended by executive-level magazine publishers and editors, as well as advertisers and the press, is hosted by Magazine Publishers of America (MPA) and ASME.

RULES & ELIGIBILITY

•          The competition is open to magazines edited, published and distributed in the United States.  Only members of ASME and MPA are eligible.

         Cover dates of entries must range between August 1, 2006 and July 31, 2007.

         Submissions: Magazines may enter as many categories as they wish, but only one cover per category.  The same cover cannot be submitted in more than one category, with the exception of Cover of the Year.  A magazine can submit the same cover for Cover of the Year and one additional category.  If a cover could be eligible in more than one category, the editor must decide which category to enter.

         ENTRY FEE: $85 flat fee per magazine (a magazine can enter any number of categories for $85 total)

         DEADLINE FOR SUBMISSIONS:  August 10, 2007

SUBMISSION PROCESS

         Download and fill out the entry form for each category entered and fax to ASME headquarters: (212) 906-0128

         Upon receipt of your entry form, you will be given instructions via e-mail for uploading cover images to ASMEs FTP site.  (Covers must be formatted as a high-resolution JPEG.  Preferred files would be 300 dpi).
