Robert Ames, General Manager Online for Hachettes Mens Enthusiast Network since 2004, oversees Internet operations including strategic development, sales, marketing and editorial production for the websites of Car and Driver, Road & Track, Cycle World, Road & Tracks RoadGear (formerly Mobile Entertainment), Road & Tracks Speed, Sound & Vision, Premiere, Flying and Boating. Ames first joined Hachette in 2001 as General Manager Online for the companys automotive websites. Prior to joining the Hachette, Ames served as VP of marketing and merchandise for CarParts.com, an online retailer of automotive parts and accessories.

 

 

Todd Anderman

As President of Dennis Digital, a division of Dennis Publishing, Todd Anderman is responsible for Dennis Publishings interactive businesses, including the websites for Maxim, Stuff, Blender, and The Week, as well as the mobile business for all Dennis magazine properties. Previously, Anderman served as SVP of Sales, Business Development, and Licensing at American Greetings Interactive for five years. Anderman came to American Greetings from eMusic, where he served as SVP of Sales for the online versions of music magazines Rolling Stone, The Source, and Downbeat Jazz. He had also spent nine years at Ziff Davis Publishing in various sales and marketing roles.

John Battelle is an entrepreneur, journalist, professor and author. Currently Founder and Chairman of Federated Media Publishing, Battelle is also a founder and executive producer of conferences in the media, technology, communications and entertainment industries, and "band manager" with BoingBoing.net. Previously, Battelle was Founder, Chairman and CEO of Standard Media International, publisher of The Industry Standard and TheStandard.com. Prior to founding The Standard, Battelle was a co-founding editor of Wired and Wired Ventures. He is the author of "The Search: How Google and Its Rivals Rewrote the Rules of Business and Transformed Our Culture" (Portfolio, 2005).

Merrill Brown is the founder and principal of MMB Media LLC, which provides clients with management and strategy consulting, corporate, editorial and program development, business analysis and marketing services. In 1996, he was appointed as the first Editor-in-Chief of MSNBC.com, and during his tenure, the fledgling company grew to become one of the most visited news offerings on the web, maintaining a position as the No. 1 online news provider since 1999. Brown was also SVP of RealOne, was a media and communications consultant for Time Inc., NBC and other media ventures, and was one of the initial strategist s for Court TV as SVP, Corporate & Program Development.

 

 

Bob Carrigan

Bob Carrigan, President of IDG Communications, IDGs print and online publishing subsidiary, has global responsibilities and oversees eight media business units in the U.S., including about a dozen magazines, IDG List Services, IDG Research and IDGs national accounts group. Previously, Carrigan was President & CEO of IDGs Computerworld. He was also an SVP in the Interactive Marketing Group at American Online, Inc., which he joined through its acquisition of Spinner.com, an IDG Ventures portfolio company. Prior to Spinner.com, Carrigan spent several years at IDGs PC World in several senior sales management positions. He began his career at IDG as an intern for Digital News.

 

 

Jonathan Dorn

Jonathan Dorn was elevated to Editor-in-Chief of Backpacker in 2004 after serving as the magazines Executive Editor since 2002. As Executive Editor, Dorn led a complete redesign of the magazine in 2004 that included the creation of six regional editions to go along with Backpackers national edition. Dorn also positioned Backpacker as the worlds first GPS-enabled magazine in early 2004. Dorn originally joined Backpacker in 1997 as Assistant Equipment Editor, following a career as a freelance writer and historian. He was promoted to Equipment Editor in 1998, then Managing Editor in 2000.

 

 

Paul Fichtenbaum

Paul Fichtenbaum was named Managing Editor of SI.com, Sport Illustrateds website, in 2004. He oversees the editorial direction and staff for the 24/7 news website that delivers more than 150 original stories weekly, in addition to up-to-the-minute scores, breaking news, statistics and analysis of domestic and international sports. He also oversees the editorial direction of SIOncampus.com and SIKIDS.com. Previously, Fichtenbaumwho joined SI in 1989was a senior editor for the magazine. His work includes SI 2002 cover story, Death of a Fan, on errant pucks and protective netting in hockey arenas, and 1998 story, Hockeys Little Helpers, which exposed Sudafed as the legal drug choice for many NHL players.

 

 

Olivier Griot

Olivier Griot, Director of Mobile Services, Hearst Magazines, oversees the strategy and development of mobile extensions for all of Hearsts magazine brands. He is responsible for the launch of various mobile services targeted to teen girls and young women, with the Cosmopolitan, CosmoGIRL! and Seventeen brands, as well as creating mobile advertising campaigns for Hearsts clients. Before joining Hearst, Olivier led the marketing and product management team at GiantBear, a wireless technology company, where he was instrumental in developing and selling a mobile portal focused on the youth market to North American carriers. He also spent six years at the Walt Disney Company in various business development and strategy positions.

 

 

Joel Gurin

As EVP of Consumers Union, Joel Gurin oversees content development and publishing, fundraising, consumer research, new product development, and strategic planning. He joined CU in 1991 as Science Editor of Consumer Reports, became Editorial Director in 1994, and EVP in 1997. Under his direction, CU now publishes Consumer Reports magazine, with 4 million circulation; ConsumerReports.org, with 2 million active paid subscribers, the largest paid website of its kind; and books, newsletters, and websites on autos, health, finance, electronics, and home improvement. Before joining CU, Gurin was Editor of American Health and a writer specializing in health and medicine.

 

 

Jeff Jarvis

Jeff Jarvis is a former TV critic for TV Guide and People, creator of Entertainment Weekly, Sunday Editor and Associate Publisher of the New York Daily News and a columnist on the San Francisco Examiner. He was until recently President & Creative Director of Advance.net, the online arm of Advance Publications. He is now working with The New York Times Company at About.com on content development and strategy, and consulting for Advance, Fairchild and the City University of New Yorks new Graduate School of Journalism, where he lead the creation of the curriculum for the new media program. Jarvis also runs the blog, buzzmachine.com.

 

 

Lynne D. Johnson

As General Manager of VIBE.com and SPIN.com, Lynne Johnson oversees editorial and production and manages mobile initiatives for the company. She is also Editor-at-Large for Mosaic Literary Magazine, writes music features for PopMatters.com, and has written for a host of magazines, books and websites including both VIBE and SPIN, Africana.com, The Source, URB, and XLR8R. Lynne has maintained an online journal/blog called A Day In A Life since 2001 and publishes another website called BlackThoughtware.org. Past jobs include Technology Reporter and Editor at BlackPlanet.com; Associate Editor of Digital New York; and Managing Editor of Beat Down.

 

 

Steven Levy

Steven Levy, one of the most respected technology writers in the country, has covered the subject for over 20 years. Levy joined Newsweek in 1995 as a Contributing Editor and Columnist, and was promoted a year later to Senior Editor and main Technology Writer. He reports on industry strategies, policy issues, new trends and products as well as the world of cyberspace. In 2004, he started a weekly column for the magazine, called The Technologist. His articles, opinion pieces and reviews have appeared in a wide range of publications including Wired, The New Yorker, Harpers and Premiere. He has also authored five books.

Under her leadership, MPA played an instrumental role in suppressing proposed postal rate increases, launched aggressive ad campaigns extolling the power of magazines, produced groundbreaking research promoting the value of magazines at retail, and more. Millard is responsible for driving the North American sales of the company's advertising and marketing services and leading the North American sales organization. Millard was formerly Chief Internet Officer at Ziff Davis Media and President of Ziff Davis Internet. Prior to joining Ziff Davis Media, Millard was EVP and one of the founding members of DoubleClick; President and Group Publisher, SRDS; SVP and Publisher, Family Circle; and EVP/Group Publisher of Adweek Magazines. She was inducted into the American Advertising Federations Hall of Achievement, the highest honor given to advertising professionals 40 and under.

 

 

Andrew Markowitz

As Director, Digital Marketing for Kraft Foods, Andrew Markowitz oversees all online media activity and agency relationships, as well as Krafts Category Entertainment websites (NabiscoWorld, Postopia & Planters). He leads efforts for best practices by focusing on developing a wide range of online marketing principles, a pipeline of emerging media opportunities, and leading the digital medium towards accountability for the Kraft brands. Markowitz joined Kraft Foods in 2000 and has served as the head of e-Commerce marketing for the Desserts and Post Cereals businesses. Previously, Markowitz worked at Send.com, Dentsu Corp., Ammirati & Puris, and Lintas.

Today, ipsh! (which stands for instant power single-handled), acquired by Omnicom in 2005, is the US leader in mobile marketing with more than 400 campaigns implemented since its inception in 2001. In addition, the department supports the marketing and revenue initiatives of the various arms of Earl G. Graves, Ltd. Prior to re-joining BLACK ENTERPRISE in 2001, Muhammad served as the publications Technology Editor from 1995 to 1999. In 1999 he co-founded iClique Inc., a content syndication company that served portals and other websites. During his tenure, he assisted the founding team in raising over $2 million.

The sites have received numerous honors, with STYLE.COM receiving the National Magazine Award for General Excellence Online in 2005. Pallot began his career at CondeNet as the Editor-in-Chief of STYLE.COM. He came to STYLE.COM from Time Inc. Interactive where, as an editorial consultant, he advised on web strategy for the companys magazines. He has also served as Editorial Director, New Media, for NewsCorporation, as Editorial Director of Canadas Shift, and as Editor of Britains Virgin Movie Guide.

 

 

Christopher J. Poleway

He is also President of the MONEY Group, which includes the monthly personal finance magazine, MONEY and CNNMoney.com. Poleway, a 20-plus year veteran of Time Warner and Time Inc., has been with FORTUNE since 1991 in a variety of management positions. A Brooklyn native, he is a graduate of St. Bonaventure University in Olean, NY and has an MBA from Fordham University.

Rebello joined the magazine in 1991 as a San Francisco correspondent, covering personal computers and the software industry. She was named Bureau Manager in 1995. Prior to joining BusinessWeek, she was a reporter for USA Today for nine years, reporting on the high-tech industry from the Silicon Valley bureau.

 

 

Stephanie Sandberg

Stephanie Sandberg is VP, Marketing, for FORTUNE and FORTUNE Small Business, where she oversees brand positioning, communications and program development for the advertising marketplace. She was previously President and Publisher at The New Republic. While at TNR she developed a conference business and extended branding and custom content program, and oversaw the launch of a digital subscription and a greatly expanded website. Sandberg started her career at American Express Publishing, and has served as director of her own non-profit consulting business in addition to holding executive positions at a variety of publications, including The Los Angeles Times, Newsweek and The New Yorker.

Brian Steinberg was named the advertising columnist for The Wall Street Journal, published by Dow Jones & Company, in 2003. Prior to being appointed to his current position, Steinberg was a special writer and the lead media business reporter for Dow Jones Newswires, for whom he had covered many subjects and companies, and edited "The Pitch," a weekly marketing column, which he originated with another reporter in 1999. Steinberg was also a business reporter and columnist for the Capital, worked as a news assistant in the Washington bureau of The New York Times and as an editorial assistant for Spy.

 

 

Andrew Swinand

In his current role as EVP/Group Client Leader, a position created by Starcom in 2004, Andrew Swinand is responsible for the agencys Nintendo, U.S. Army, Disney Theme Parks and Applebees media teams. Swinand is also the agencys technology expert, overseeing Sun Microsystems and Oracle on a global basis. In addition, he heads the agencys Magazine Investment Group, wherein he is charged with collaborating with top publishers to revive and rediscover the true strengths of the magazine medium. Previously, Swinand served as a platoon leader in Germany for the U.S. Army. He later embarked on an advertising and marketing career that included tenures at BBDO and Procter & Gamble.

She added such features to the site as job listings, bulletin boards, classes, e-classes and a freelance marketplace, and today, 350,000 media professionals have registered for various mediabistro.com services around the world. Touby began her career at Working Woman, moved on to BusinessWeek as a staff editor, and in 1993 began editing and writing a column on workplace issues for Glamour. She has also covered everything from travel to business to breast cancer for a variety of publications.

 

 

Lauren Wiener

Lauren Wiener was named VP of Meredith Interactive in 2005, overseeing all key elements of the companys interactive business and creative, including all editorial and revenue generating activity. Shortly after, Wiener took the lead role in overseeing the entire transition of integrating the former G+J websites to the Meredith platform. Wiener joined Meredith as the Managing Director of Sales and Marketing for Meredith Interactive Media in 2003. Previously, at Primedia, she had served as VP and General Manager for both American Baby Internet Group and Seventeen Internet Group.
