Privacy
July 10, 2008
The last few years have seen increased consumer and governmental interest in privacy. Although many studies have demonstrated that sharing consumer information provides a variety of benefits to consumers-- including lower prices-- surveys continue to show that some consumers remain uneasy about sharing their personal information.
Several legislative proposals with regard to privacy have been offered in Congress and in state legislatures. MPA closely monitors these legislative proposals to ensure consistency with the privacy principles advocated by MPA – namely a “notice and choice” or “opt-out” system. MPA has also evaluated these legislative proposals for ease of implementation and will continue to participate in the legislative process to ensure that any privacy legislation under consideration is workable for the magazine industry.
