MPA continues to oppose sales taxes on both subscriptions and over-the-counter sales of magazines. Because MPA understands that taxes on subscriptions place greater collection and record-keeping burdens on publishers than do similar taxes on over-the-counter sales, our efforts in this area are generally focused on preventing the enactment of subscription sales taxes.
In recent years, MPA has worked to defeat proposals that would have placed taxes on magazine subscriptions. Currently, there is a proposal that could impact the sales tax on subscriptions as well as advertising deductibility in Florida. MPA is actively involved in preventing this, working with other interested parties to educate the public about the detrimental economic impact this would have on the state’s economy.
