The Idea House Will Open for Tours on June 27, 2015

Birmingham, AL (December 4, 2014) – For over 25 years, Southern Living, the brand that celebrates life in the South, has assembled a project team to develop one “Idea House” with the goal of providing creative ideas and inspiration for building and updating one’s home. This year, Southern Living is partnering with Natural Retreats, a luxury travel and real estate development company, on the house located at Bundoran Farm just outside Charlottesville, VA. Southern Living’s 2014 Custom Builder of the Year Jayson Collier of Summit Custom Homes will build the house and The Rosney Company Architects’ Keith Scott and Julie Kline Dixon are the architects. Renowned interior designer Bunny Williams will oversee the interior décor.

The Southern Living Idea House will celebrate its Groundbreaking with a special event on Thursday, December 4 on the Bundoran Farm site, and will open to the public for tours beginning on June 27, 2015. The house will remain open until December 2015, and will be featured in the August issue of Southern Living.

“Our audience considers Southern Living an inspiring sourcebook for the home, and the Idea House takes that inspiration to a whole new level,” said Editor in Chief Sid Evans. “We are thrilled to bring our 2015 Idea House to the beautiful setting of Charlottesville and to work with these talented partners on one of the most exciting homes we've ever designed.”

“Our team is thrilled to have Bundoran Farm by Natural Retreats selected as the site of the 2015 Southern Living Idea House, and to invite people from across the nation to experience the beauty of this amazing farm land,” said Natural Retreats CEO Matt Spence. “My family and I live here on the farm and I have to pinch myself every day that I can wake up in one of the most spectacular places in the country.”

“We are honored to be chosen to build the 2015 Southern Living Idea House,” said Jayson Collier of Summit Custom Homes. “We look forward to working with all of our partners on this project to deliver a home that showcases all our region has to offer.”

“The 2015 Southern Living Idea House is the culmination of the Rosney Company’s effort to create a modern interpretation of the classic Virginia farmhouse,” said architect Julie Kline Dixon of The Rosney Company Architects. “The home’s stone structures, bookended chimneys and porches are reminiscent of the building materials and forms used in the Piedmont historically.”

“As I grew up in Charlottesville, I am thrilled to be collaborating with Southern Living as the Interior Designer for the 2015 Idea House,” said Bunny Williams. “I have been influenced throughout my design career by the exposure I had living in Virginia to the architecture, comfortable homes and warm hospitality. I hope to bring these feelings to the Idea House.”
