The Association of Magazine Media

New York, NY (November 6, 2018) – Sports Illustrated announced today it had reached a deal, effective immediately, with Chris Mannix to be a senior writer focusing on the NBA. The hiring represents a return to the franchise for Mannix, who worked at SI from 2003-15 before spending the last three years as a senior NBA writer at Yahoo! Sports.

One of the most versatile and respected multi-platform journalists in the industry, Mannix joins SI’s award-winning basketball staff, The Crossover. His duties as a senior writer will include helping lead SI’s NBA coverage in the magazine, on and on SI TV, where he will help develop new programming around the game’s biggest names and influencers. He will also continue his popular NBA and boxing podcasts.

“Chris is one of the most talented, hardest-working and versatile journalists in all of sports media,” says Sports Illustrated editor-in-chief Chris Stone. “His reporting and opinions are authoritative and methodically built, which has enabled him to build a vast, diverse audience across every platform known to sports media in 2018. He’s also one of the most popular, generous talents to walk the halls of Sports Illustrated. We’re thrilled to have him back.”

Mannix will continue in his capacity as an NBA analyst for NBC Sports Boston and as a host for DAZN boxing. In addition, he hosts a show on Fox Sports Radio and contributes regularly to Fox Sports 1. The Boston College graduate will also continue to be a regular guest and fill-in host on The Dan Patrick Show.

"SI remains one of the most recognized and respected brands in sports, and I couldn't be happier for the opportunity to come back,” Mannix says. “Its deep commitment to sports journalism is unparalleled and the growth of SI TV, SI Films and everything they are doing in the video space has me excited about the future. I'm ready to get to work.”

Mannix, who is represented by CAA, will be based out of Boston.
