COOKING LIGHT & HEALTH ANNOUNCE THE FIT FOODIE 5K RACE WEEKEND SERIES

Co-Branded Collaboration Expands to Three Weekend-Long Celebrations of Food, Fitness and Fun in Fairfax, VA, Austin, TX, and San Diego, CA

Ten Percent of All Ticket Sales Will Benefit City of Hope, the Official Charity Partner

New York, NY & San Diego, CA (May 5, 2014)—Time Inc.’s leading healthy lifestyle brands Cooking Light and Health today announced the expansion of their successful The Fit Foodie 5K Race Weekend to a series of events in three markets beginning later this year. The series will kick-off in Fairfax, Virginia on June 20-22, followed by Austin, Texas on September 12-14 and conclude in San Diego, California on November 14-16, where last year’s inaugural race took place. Cooking Light & Health’s The Fit Foodie 5K Race Weekend is a production of Fast Forward Event Productions based in San Diego, CA.

“More than 2,000 passionate consumers from all over the country converged on San Diego to experience the Cooking Light and Health brands at last year’s event. Given its tremendous success, we’re excited to add two markets creating a larger footprint and giving access to thousands more food and fitness enthusiasts at the most delicious 5K race weekend ever,” said Cooking Light and Health Group Publisher Diane Oshin.

Cooking Light & Health’s The Fit Foodie 5K Race Weekend festivities in each market begin on Friday evening with an intimate pre-race VIP Light Up The Night tasting event. Guests will join editors from both brands for a healthy and delicious dose of food and motivation before race day. The race takes place on Saturday morning and concludes at the Finisher’s Village, where runners and supporters are invited to celebrate their hard work in style. Activities include chef demonstrations, food samples, wine tastings, giveaways, lively discussions and classes from renowned health and fitness experts.

To close each weekend on Sunday, guests will have a choice of a sunrise yoga session featuring celebrity yogi and Health contributor Kristin McGee or a Power Systems’ boot camp session led by celebrity trainer Patrick Goudeau, followed by a healthy brunch.

Sponsors to date include: Power Systems, Cetaphil, Hawaiian Host, RockMyRun, and Sartori. More sponsors and participants will be announced soon.

Ten percent of all ticket sales will benefit the official charity partner, City of Hope, a leading research and treatment center for cancer, diabetes, and other life-threatening diseases. City of Hope’s scientists were among the first to make the connection between physical activity and breast cancer risk, and they encourage fitness as an important part of lowering risk of cancer, diabetes and other diseases.
