ERIC JOHNSON NAMED ASSOCIATE PUBLISHER, MARKETING for SELF

SELF vice president & publisher Mary Murcko announced the appointment of Eric Johnson as associate publisher, marketing of SELF, effective May 21. Most recently, Johnson was vice president/ad sales marketing of the NBC News Digital Group.

“SELF is entering a completely new phase—editorially, in our partnerships with brand marketers and through the two-way conversation we have with our audience. We will clearly define a new multiplatform media space that reflects how health, wellness and fitness fit into a busy woman’s life,” says Murcko. “Eric’s creativity, senior leadership experience and understanding of digital, promotions and media marketing to women will be invaluable to SELF at this exciting and innovative time.”

In his role at NBC, Johnson oversaw properties including Today.com, iVillage.com, MSNBC.com and NBCNews.com. He was the launch VP marketing head for the digital news group under NBCUniversal when it was migrated from MSN.

Prior to joining NBCUniversal, Johnson was VP, client solutions at Gannett’s USA Today and USA Weekend, where he was instrumental in helping reinvigorate these major brands by developing successful cross-platform advertising solutions and marketing strategies.

Previously, he was the VP/group marketing director at Rodale Publishing, working extensively with Men’s Health, Women’s Health and Prevention. Before his corporate role at Rodale, Johnson served as associate publisher, marketing of Prevention and the launch associate publisher, marketing of Women’s Health.

Prior to joining Rodale, Johnson held several senior marketing positions at Condé Nast for Glamour and Cargo. He is a graduate of St. Louis University.
