Worldwide Editors of Harper’s BAZAAR to Celebrate at New York’s Plaza Hotel on September 16

NEW YORK, July 30, 2015 – Harper’s BAZAAR today unveiled the 2015 ICONS by Carine Roitfeld, a 17-page portfolio spotlighting nine modern icons, appearing in all September newsstand issues of all 32 editions, reaching an audience of 22 million. Photographed by legendary image-maker Jean-Paul Goude, with creative direction by Stephen Gan, this year’s ICONS feature transforms Katy Perry, Mariah Carey, Oprah Winfrey and others into their iconic inspirations, from Marie Antoinette and Aphrodite to Joan of Arc and Elizabeth Taylor. And, for the first time, Roitfeld’s quarterly global feature also includes a male icon, model/actor/musician Lucky Blue, who appears as Liberace.

“Bringing ICONS to life is such a thrill and I am excited to share this year's spectacular lineup alongside such a visionary like Jean-Paul Goude,” said Roitfeld. “We've really captured the spirit of each icon's transformation in what I hope people will consider to be unforgettable fashion.”

The 2015 ICONS are Lucky Blue, Mariah Carey, Jessica Chastain, Dakota Johnson, Chris Lee, Katy Perry, Willow Smith, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, and Oprah Winfrey. Visit to see the portfolio. The September issue hits newsstands on August 18.

“This series of images took almost eight months to complete, and it was probably one of the most intense projects I've done in my life,” said Gan. “Working with Jean-Paul and Carine and this powerful list of people, each interpreting their fantasies and transforming themselves, was like watching performance art. Jean-Paul is one of the most important image-makers today, truly a magician.”

Harper’s BAZAAR, Carine Roitfeld, the Gan gang, some of the most exciting personalities of our time...How lucky I was to have them all to myself and what a challenge,” said Goude.

Harper’s BAZAAR editors from around the world will come together on Wednesday, September 16th to celebrate ICONS by Carine Roitfeld at the legendary Plaza Hotel. This year’s ICONS event partners will again include Infor and Samsung along with COVERGIRL and Kit and Ace; Belvedere Vodka will create specialty cocktails and Moët & Chandon will provide the champagne.

Jean-Paul Goude Biography:

Jean-Paul Goude is among the world’s most celebrated and legendary image-makers, famous for his elaborate sets and compositions that blur the boundaries between fantasy and reality. Having grown up in the suburbs of Paris, Goude was inspired from an early age by form and movement, leading him to embark on a career in illustration that would eventually expand into photography, film directing, and graphic design. He served an art director at Esquire in New York City in the ‘80s, and had an ongoing creative and romantic relationship with model and musician Grace Jones.
