THE HOLLYWOOD REPORTER SEES SKYROCKETING AUDIENCE GROWTH WITH ONLINE TRAFFIC REACHING 21.5 MILLION MONTHLY COMSCORE UNIQUES IN MAY

With readership surging 50% over last year, THR.com now ranks above Vanity Fair, Vogue, New York Magazine, Entertainment Weekly, New York Times Arts section, Elle & Refinery29.com in entertainment news online

LOS ANGELES – June 23, 2017 – The Hollywood Reporter, entertainment media’s flagship outlet, announced it saw record-breaking audience growth in May with 21.5 million monthly unique visitors to its website, THR.com, a 50% year-over-year rise and a 13% increase over the preceding month, according to comScore.

With its new high in online traffic, The Hollywood Reporter is now larger than the New York Times Arts section, Vanity Fair, Vogue, Entertainment Weekly, Elle, Refinery29.com and the three New York Media properties NYMag, Vulture and The Cut combined.

The Hollywood Reporter has long been the leader in entertainment business news, and in May it exceeded that of competitors Variety, Deadline and Los Angeles Times Entertainment by 24 percent, 90 percent, and 368 percent, respectively.

Together with the music-focused sister brand Billboard, the Billboard-Hollywood Reporter Media Group recorded its best month ever with 43.7M monthly U.S. uniques.

“The recent growth online is a great testament to the quality, depth and diversity of The Hollywood Reporter’s content,” said Matthew Belloni, editorial director of The Hollywood Reporter. “Congrats to our entire staff for delivering day after day.”

The May growth, part of a recent trend, was fueled by THR's comprehensive coverage of the Cannes Film Festival, the TV Upfronts, the summer movie season and a number of compelling feature stories: Those included an exclusive interview with Billy Bush, who broke his silence on Donald Trump’s notorious hot-mic incident; an in-depth oral history on Saturday Night Live’s current season; and a piece on Justice League director Zack Snyder.

The Hollywood Reporter was also recently nominated for a 2017 National Magazine Award and received 41 nominations for this year’s Southern California Journalism Awards, including four for Journalist of the Year and another for Best Website. The Hollywood Reporter also recently received a Daytime Emmy nomination, for its Close Up With The Hollywood Reporter series with SundanceTV, in the outstanding special-class series category.
