PETERSEN’S 4-WHEEL & OFF-ROAD NAMES 2015 TOYOTA 4RUNNER TRD PRO 4x4 OF THE YEAR

LOS ANGELES, CA – November 18, 2014 – TEN: The Enthusiast Network announced today that PETERSEN’S 4-WHEEL & OFF-ROAD has selected the 2015 Toyota 4Runner TRD Pro its 4x4 of the Year. Since the inception of the 4x4 of the Year award in 1983, this marks the fourth time a Toyota 4x4 has taken home the top honor, which includes the Toyota Land Cruiser in 2008, the Toyota Tundra in 2000, and the Toyota Pickup in 1989.

The new Toyota 4Runner TRD Pro’s amazing off-road ride, general off-road capability, and outstanding all-around utility elevated it to the top of this year’s 4x4 class. The 4Runner TRD Pro was chosen from a highly capable group of 2015 vehicles with the latest in 4x4 technologies and innovations, which includes the Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk, Ram Power Wagon, Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro, and Toyota Tundra TRD Pro.

“The 2015 Toyota 4Runner TRD Pro was an early standout in this year’s competition,” said PETERSEN’S 4-WHEEL & OFF-ROAD Editor-in-Chief Fred Williams. “With its finely honed brake-based traction control system, Crawl Mode settings, and mechanical rear locking differential, the 4Runner is extremely capable even in the hands of someone without much off-road driving experience. The TRD Pro tuned suspension, including Bilstein remote reservoir shocks and revised spring rates, is perfectly balanced for great off-road performance while maintaining refined on-road manners. Add in a locking differential and that’s exactly the kind of off-road refinements we like to see coming from vehicle manufacturers.”

The 2015 4x4 of the Year award competition featured two SUVs and three trucks that squared off in a series of on- and off-road reviews and tests. The competition covered more than 1,000 miles to evaluate each vehicle in categories that included suspension, engine, transmission, and transfer case, in addition to performance on dirt, rocks, sand, and gravel.

To be eligible to compete, a vehicle must be all-new or have substantial improvements that make it perform significantly different from the previous model year. Vehicles must also be available for sale before January 15 of the model year, have a production run of at least 2,500 units, and be equipped with a true low-range 4x4 setting. The complete test results and vehicle evaluations for the 2015 4x4 of the Year competition will appear in the March 2015 issue, available December 26, 2014.

Information on the test will also be immediately available on the new PETERSEN’S 4-WHEEL & OFF-ROAD website, www.4wheeloffroad.com, as part of the Four Wheeler Network, www.fourwheeler.com, and on its Facebook page at www.facebook.com/4wheeloffroad.
