New York, NY – May 11, 2015 –Prevention Editor-in-Chief Bruce Kelley today announced the appointment of Courtney Murphy as Creative Director for Prevention, the #1 healthy lifestyle magazine brand in the U.S., published by Rodale Inc., with a print and digital audience of more than 14 million readers. Murphy will report to Kelley and be based in Prevention publisher Rodale Inc’s Emmaus, PA office.


For the past seven years, Murphy has worked as Creative Director for Good Housekeeping, where she led her team through two major redesigns and won multiple merit awards from the Society of Publication Designers (SPD) as well as two ASME nominations. Previously, Murphy was the Design Director for AARP The Magazine where she also won multiple awards, including an SPD award for the redesign of the magazine, an ASME nomination, numerous Mature Media awards for photography and design, and two Communication Arts awards. Murphy has also served as Art Director for The Sunday Review, Independent on Sunday, Spectrum Magazine and Budapest Week.


In 2014, Prevention became an industry pioneer in digital-first publishing; its editors develop content for its fast-growing websites and, and then build the monthly magazine based on response. Kelley said, “What I love about Courtney is that she loves digital first thinking and has a journalistic bent. That’s in addition to being one of the top design talents in magazines, with an incredible eye and a keen understanding of our demo and brand. She fits perfectly with where Prevention is going.”

Murphy holds both a M.A. from the Missouri School of Journalism and a B.A. from Colorado College,

and resides in New York City. Murphy replaces Christin Gangi who moved to Rodale’s Organic Life.
