Global Executives & Tech Innovators to Convene for Day-long Forum on the Connected World

Bohemian National Hall in New York City — November 5, 2014

Quartz, the digital global business news publication, will hold its third iteration of the successful The Next Billion event series in New York City, on November 5th. The day-long live forum will examine the connected world, exploring the technologies and strategies companies and individuals need to know to prepare for the next billion internet users coming online.

This year’s forum will gather 300 international business executives, tech innovators and thought leaders in various industries. Featured speakers include Lawrence Lessig (Professor, Harvard Law School), danah boyd (Principal Researcher, Microsoft Research), Alex Hawkinson (CEO, SmartThings) and Mike Abbott (General Partner, KPCB), among others.

Quartz Managing Editor, Bobby Ghosh, will host the forum and Editor-in-Chief, Kevin Delaney, will moderate discussions throughout the day, along with Fareed Zakaria of The Atlantic and CNN and Ali Velshi of Al Jazeera America.

“The connection of billions more people to the internet over this decade is one of the seismic phenomena of our day,” says Delaney. “Our goal for this forum is our aim for Quartz itself: to host discussions that help make our readers, our attendees, and ourselves smarter on such critical issues.”

Quartz first launched The Next Billion series last November in New York, and most recently brought the series to Seattle last June.

“The Next Billion series has been consistently rich in content and has brought better than 93% satisfaction rates from attendees,” says Jay Lauf, Quartz’s publisher and president. “We’re very excited to be back in New York, where the flagship event started.”

Partners and underwriters of The Next Billion include La Compagnie, Marketplace Radio and Storify. A livestream of the event will be available on and here.
