SHAPE MAGAZINE’S ANNUAL SUMMER SHAPE UP EVENT RETURNS TO LOS ANGELES ON JUNE 20

NEW YORK, N.Y., (May 4, 2015) – SHAPE magazine announced today that its popular Summer SHAPE Up workout event will return to Hermosa Beach in Los Angeles on Saturday, June 20. The event brings the magazine’s three-part “Summer SHAPE Up” editorial series to life with a one-day bootcamp experience that attracts more than 2,000 attendees.

The 2015 event marks the seventh year that SHAPE has hosted summer fitness classes on the beaches of Los Angeles. For the first time, SHAPE is partnering with Beachbody, the creator of the nation’s most popular fitness programs, to offer the ultimate beachfront workouts hosted by top trainers Shaun T., Tony Horton and Autumn Calabrese. Katrina & Karena, co-founders of the fitness and nutrition program Tone It Up, will also join the party.

The full-day event features seven super-charged 45-minute classes from 8 a.m. to 2:45 p.m. To register, participants must reserve tickets online at a fee of $5 per class. Classes are capped at 350 people per session, so participants are encouraged to register early. “Our ‘Summer SHAPE Up’ workouts are a signature series in the magazine,” says Elizabeth Goodman Artis, Editor-in-Chief, SHAPE. “Readers look to these workouts to get a jump start on bikini season every year, and this event offers the perfect opportunity for our audience to not only learn the best moves for achieving their summer body, but also train with the top experts in the industry.”

In addition to Beachbody, Summer SHAPE Up is sponsored by Macy’s, Neutrogena, Oakley, Roxy Swim and ThinkThin. Attendees are encouraged to visit the Macy’s Activewear pop-up shop on the pier, participate in small-group surf lessons presented by Roxy Swim, and stop by the SHAPE Escape Resort to pick up samples, snacks and prizes from Neutrogena and ThinkThin, among others. Neutrogena will also provide sunscreen stations throughout the event and Oakley will showcase a new line of eyewear. All ticketed guests will leave with a product-packed “swag” bag.

A portion of the event proceeds will benefit the Jimmy Miller Memorial Foundation, a Manhattan Beach-based non-profit organization dedicated to healing those who are injured or ill, including veterans and underprivileged children, through surfing and ocean-related activities.
