Smithsonian Journeys 45-Year History In Travel Enrichment Experiences Provides The Basis For A New Cultural Travel Publication

NEW YORK, NY (April 10, 2015) – Smithsonian Enterprises, a culturally influential, multi-media brand, announced the launch of a new newsstand publication, Smithsonian Journeys travel quarterly.

The new publication is an integral part of Smithsonian Enterprise’s expanded travel offerings, which includes digital travel content on, travel-related videos and books, and the Smithsonian Journeys tour operations, which for 45 years has led vibrant cultural and historical tours to every continent on the planet.

Each issue of the quarterly publication will have an editorial focus on one of the travel destinations offered by Smithsonian Journeys tours. The content will be curated to inspire cultured travelers to see the world, through a thoughtful mix of photography and storytelling, and showing how the past meets the present through the arts, architecture, food, folklore, ethnic life, customs, indigenous peoples and even the natural world and sciences.

Under the editorial direction of Victoria Pope, the first issue guides readers through Paris with a walking historical tour, stunning photography and an exploration of some of the social and cultural underpinnings of the city. The issue’s timing and themes of the subsequent issues are as follows:

·       Fall 2015: The Inka Trail

·       Winter 2015: The Silk Road

·       Spring 2016: Waterways of Europe

“Smithsonian Journeys travel quarterly builds on our renowned editorial content, educational network, and decades of experience creating enriching travel opportunities all over the world,” said Stephen Giannetti, Chief Revenue Officer, Smithsonian Media. “This new publication presents a unique offering for readers and advertisers alike, serving as a trusted source for cultural travel experiences worldwide.”

In January, Smithsonian Enterprises announced a collaboration between Smithsonian Journeys, Smithsonian Media, and Regent Seven Seas Cruises, to present The Smithsonian Collection by Smithsonian Journeys.  This agreement provides a unique opportunity for Regent Seven Seas Cruises to offer guests access to Smithsonian Journey’s esteemed network of experts, and for Smithsonian magazine readers to continue their quest for educational enrichment with a trusted source on Regent Seven Seas Cruises voyages.
