NEW YORK, NY (March 14, 2017) – Today, Time Inc.’s (NYSE:TIME) Southern Living, the leading authority on Southern life and culture, announces the first ever South’s Best Awards, recognizing readers’ favorite Southern destinations across 13 categories.

Last fall, Southern Living polled the Southern Living audience across the country to find out their favorite bars, breweries, cities, hotels, inns, islands, museums, resorts, restaurants, shops, small towns, tailgates—and even barbecue joints.

Charleston, South Carolina, took top honors and was voted the South’s Best City. Synonymous with Southern charm, skimmer boats and carriage tours, the city of Charleston continues to captivate travelers from near and far. Read more about Charleston and other incredible Southern cities here:

A survey developed by the editors of Southern Living, in association with the third party research firm, GBH Insights, was made available at from November 9, 2016, to December 4, 2016. Readers were invited to participate through Southern Living magazine, email invitations, newsletters, social media, and GBH Insights maintained, monitored, and kept the survey website secure, and also collected and tabulated the responses. To protect the integrity of the data, after the survey closed, GBH Insights screened the responses to identify fraudulent votes, which were eliminated from the final tallies.
