SOCIAL MEDIA IN TRAVEL + TOURISM AWARDS (SMITTY® Awards)

 

Third Annual Awards Honor Hotels, Cruise Lines, Airlines, Tourism Boards, and More

For Their Standout Social Media Campaigns

 

Esteemed 2014 Jury Includes Al Roker, Ann Tran, Rob Torres, and Jason Clampet, Among Others

 

New York, NY (June 9, 2014)Travel + Leisure® announced today the winners of the third annual Travel + Leisure Social Media in Travel + Tourism™ Awards (SMITTY® Awards), which recognize the companies in the travel and tourism industry showcasing the best and most innovative uses of social media.

 

Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts takes home the most awards with four wins. Also of note, Virgin Atlantic and The Hertz Corporation received two wins in two categories each. The winners of this year’s SMITTY Awards were selected by a distinguished jury of digital insiders and travel industry experts, including Rob Torres, managing director of travel for Google, and Al Roker, co-host and weatherman for NBC’s TODAY show. The jury reviewed hundreds of submissions and named winners and runners-up in 30 categories. 

 

“This year’s list of winners proves that travel companies are adopting new social media platforms at the same time as they’re innovating on the existing ones,” said Rich Beattie, Executive Digital Editor of Travel + Leisure. “From turning an in-flight safety tutorial into a music video, to using Twitter to find followers having a bad day and cheer them up, these companies truly understand how to engage their fans and enhance their travel experience.”

To celebrate the SMITTY Awards, Travel + Leisure is hosting an event on July 9, 2014 at the Refinery Hotel rooftop in Manhattan.
