Standard Media Index: Magazine Revenues Have Grown 15% in 2013 So Far
The Standard Media Index, which culls data from media agencies amounting to an estimated 60% of total agency spend, shows magazines having a strong first six months in 2013 (see last paragraph,) with national cable networks and others growing in ad revenues versus the same time period of a year ago.

“The headline for us is it’s our largest issue ever, but it doesn’t tell the whole story,” said SVP and CRO Kevin O’Malley. “I can tell you that one of the most significant drivers of that, is that the other milestone that we set for September: The highest total revenue for Elle.com for a single month since it launched in 1996, and the highest ever for a magazine site at Hearst.”
InStyle Celebrates Biggest September Issue Ever (with Kittens!)
InStyle’s September issue is its biggest ever, clocking in at 716 pages. It’s so big that the magazine’s staffers decided to see what weighed more — the issue, or two kittens? The InStyle team said it was a tie, but really it’s three pounds for the issue and five pounds for the kittens.
