MPA – The Association of Magazine Media Releases IMAG Financial Benchmarking Study
“The MPA’s IMAG community prides itself on sharing and learning from one another,” said Andy Clurman, President and CEO of Active Interest Media and Chair of the IMAG Financial Benchmarking Study. “As a board, we thought a benchmarking study would be the ideal way to provide member companies with key metrics to better understand how their performance compares to similar companies.” The survey was conducted in the last quarter of 2016 by Mazars USA, a global accounting firm. Only open to members of the IMAG community, participants received two sets of detailed results: one for all respondents and one broken down by revenue tier.
Video Consumption by Magazine Audience Increases Popularity, Improves User Experience
Sara Guaglione writes "The video audience has increased by 39.4% since April 2016. According to last month's MPA Brand Audience Report, video was up 43.9% year-over-year. Print and digital audiences (visitors not subscribers) are up 5.5%, compared to the same month a year ago."

How New York’s The Cut Is Betting Big on Video
New York Media’s The Cut is getting serious about video, rolling out its first original series “Face Race,” which debuted last week. “Face Race” is part of a larger effort by New York to create more video series across its brands. Grub Street, the company’s food blog, just wrapped a limited-run series tied to its “Best of New York” pop-up blog, which highlights some of the best food in the city across different categories.
Stella Bugbee Promoted at The Cut
Stella Bugbee will add business oversight to her current editorial duties: In her new role, Bugbee’s will work with New York Media chief revenue officer and publisher Avi Zimak on the Cut’s branded content and marketing efforts, and strengthen relationships with advertisers.
Vice and Garage Celebrate Their Future and Cultural Differences
It was a sort of coming out party for Vice Media and Garage Magazine since the Brooklyn-based company bought a majority stake in the biannual art and fashion glossy last year. We are pleased to share the April 2017 MPA Brand Audience Report. The Total Magazine Media 360° Audience for April 2017 is up 1.9% compared to the same month a year ago, Print+Digital is up 5.5%, Web (Desktop/Laptop) is down 12.5%, Mobile is down 0.5%, and Video is up 39.4%.
MPA Responds to Meeker's 2017 Trend Report
MPA CEO Linda Thomas Brooks writes ""Print" combines magazines and newspapers, making it a useless analysis for understanding either media. No detail is offered in terms of how many brands of either newspapers or magazines are used or which specific brands are part of this "Print" channel. Forgetting that for a moment, as you point out, the data ignores the fact that magazine brands live across formats and channels-and consumers find and enjoy them in all those places. Magazine brands populate and drive internet and mobile platforms with their branded media; therefore magazine media make up vast parts of the internet and mobile experience and are part of that "time spent" too."
