The May 2017 Magazine Media 360° Brand Audience Report Is Here
MPA – The Association of Magazine Media has released the latest Brand Audience Report demonstrating that audiences continue to consume and demand content across platforms. Most notably, for the third consecutive six-month period, the GfK MRI study indicates year-over-year growth in the Print+Digital audience. The total Magazine Media 360° audience for May 2017 is up +2.3% versus the same month a year ago. By platform, Print+Digital is up +3.7%, Web (Desktop/Laptop) is down -9.0%, Mobile is up +1.4%, and Video is up +48.1%. May’s results are consistent with the trends in recent months. Both the Print and Video platforms show growth versus a year ago; Web audiences continue to decline in favor of other platforms; and Mobile Web has flattened as it nears saturation.
Time Inc.'s People, Scripps Network Interactive's Food Network Among Media Companies Starting Shows on Amazon's New Echo
Scripps Networks Interactive' Food Network and Time Inc.'s People introduced apps for the device, called the Amazon Echo Show. "It actually solves one of the key challenges consumers have with voice alone, which is you can't look at it," said Al Ming, director of product management for Scripps Networks websites, apps and emerging platforms. "If you can't look at it, you're probably not going to decide to eat it."
Meredith Corporation's "Allrecipes" Expands Alexa Cooking Feature with New Amazon Echo Show
With this new launch, Allrecipes will enable users to not only speak commands to select from among multiple recipe images, but voice activation will also play, pause and navigate videos shown on the Amazon Echo Show's seven-inch touchscreen.
Golf, Kiplinger's Name New Top Editors
David DeNunzio has been named editor-in-chief of Golf and Golf.com. He is replacing David Clarke, who is retiring after 12 years at the helm. Mark Solheim has been named editor of Kiplinger’s Personal Finance. He is taking over for Janet Bodnar, who is retiring after eight years in the role.
Diana Ross Brings Her Star Power to the Essence Festival
Michelle Ebanks, president of Essence Communications Inc., said they were thrilled when Ross committed to this year's festival. "For years, we've reached out to her, asking her to perform. And this year, finally, she said, 'Yes.' Persistence pays off," Ebanks said, laughing.

Matthew Rettenmund writes "...in June 1973, Playgirl's first issue hit the newsstand, with a mission similar to its long-standing counterpart: to feature nude centerfolds alongside hard-hitting features by and for women. On the first cover, a nude man (credited as "Eldon") sat cross-legged, his modesty preserved by shadows, as an amorous woman (credited as "Lorelei") nuzzled him from behind. One of its cover lines: "Compulsions of the promiscuous woman." It sold out, moving six hundred thousand copies in four days. At its peak during the late seventies, each issue sold around 1.5 million copies."

“The MPA’s IMAG community prides itself on sharing and learning from one another,” said Andy Clurman, President and CEO of Active Interest Media and Chair of the IMAG Financial Benchmarking Study. “As a board, we thought a benchmarking study would be the ideal way to provide member companies with key metrics to better understand how their performance compares to similar companies.” The survey was conducted in the last quarter of 2016 by Mazars USA, a global accounting firm. Only open to members of the IMAG community, participants received two sets of detailed results: one for all respondents and one broken down by revenue tier.
