MPA: More Publishers Adopt Video As Audiences Grow
More magazine brands are producing video as audience rates grow across various platforms, according to the latest Magazine Media 360° Brand Audience Report for May 2017 from The Association of Magazine Media. Video audiences have risen 48.1% from May 2016 to May 2017. There are now 82 magazine brands that report a video audience to MPA. Its reports include 126 magazine media brands from 30 companies, representing 95% of magazine readership.

MPA – The Association of Magazine Media has released the latest Brand Audience Report demonstrating that audiences continue to consume and demand content across platforms. Most notably, for the third consecutive six-month period, the GfK MRI study indicates year-over-year growth in the Print+Digital audience. The total Magazine Media 360° audience for May 2017 is up +2.3% versus the same month a year ago. By platform, Print+Digital is up +3.7%, Web (Desktop/Laptop) is down -9.0%, Mobile is up +1.4%, and Video is up +48.1%. May’s results are consistent with the trends in recent months. Both the Print and Video platforms show growth versus a year ago; Web audiences continue to decline in favor of other platforms; and Mobile Web has flattened as it nears saturation.

Adweek's Christopher Heine reports; "While Facebook, which announced it has 2 billion global users earlier this week, is no doubt healthy, it may no longer quite be the runaway freight train of digital advertising it was in recent years. Three digital agencies said their cross-client Facebook ad spends during the second quarter have slowed... when compared with year-over-year percentage growth for the same period in 2016."

“The MPA’s IMAG community prides itself on sharing and learning from one another,” said Andy Clurman, President and CEO of Active Interest Media and Chair of the IMAG Financial Benchmarking Study. “As a board, we thought a benchmarking study would be the ideal way to provide member companies with key metrics to better understand how their performance compares to similar companies.” The survey was conducted in the last quarter of 2016 by Mazars USA, a global accounting firm. Only open to members of the IMAG community, participants received two sets of detailed results: one for all respondents and one broken down by revenue tier.
