Nylon Debuts First Digital Series
“Nylon loves nostalgia — especially the '80s and '90s — which drives a lot of the look and feel of what we do across our pages and platforms,” said Nylon president Jamie Elden, adding that content will have the look of "This Just Happened" and is a “nod to these eras,” though it is shot and narrated at “millennial speed with rotating editorial contributors and buzzy interviews.”
Trusted Media Brands Engages in a "Re-Startup"
In conjunction with consumer revenue and audience growth, advertising is performing well for Trusted Media Brands, especially on the digital side, according to CEO Bonnie Kintzer: “Trusted Media Brands has experienced a 27 percent growth in digital revenue across our portfolio of brands and digital properties for the recently completed fiscal year,” she said. “In fact, digital advertising is the company’s fastest growing line of business.”

Dev Pragad, CEO of Newsweek Media Group, told Publishers Daily the expansion is due to a “strong demand for our content, as well as a strong readership presence here that we plan to grow.”
Pay TV Loses 1 Million Subscribers
Media analysts who feared the worst for pay TV in the second quarter have seen their projections realized. Subscriber losses nearly hit the 1 million mark. Craig Moffett, senior media analyst, of MoffettNathanson Research, says pay TV losses amounted to 941,000, which was “the worst quarterly loss ever.”

MPA—The Association of Magazine Media has released the Magazine Media 360° Brand Audience Report for June 2017. In year-over-year comparisons, the recent trends continue. Print+ Digital (+3.8%) and Video (+24.6%) are up while Web (-10.5%) and Mobile are down (-4.3%). The report covers 126 magazine brands across 30 companies.

For the 2nd Quarter of 2017, total magazine industry Followers/Likes on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Pinterest now number 1.1 billion, up 4.5% versus last quarter. Facebook, the largest by far of the four tracked social media networks, continues to see its quarter-to-quarter growth rate slow down. Instagram and Twitter are the fastest growing of the tracked social media platforms for magazine media (+8% and +6% respectively quarter-over-quarter.)

“The MPA’s IMAG community prides itself on sharing and learning from one another,” said Andy Clurman, President and CEO of Active Interest Media and Chair of the IMAG Financial Benchmarking Study. “As a board, we thought a benchmarking study would be the ideal way to provide member companies with key metrics to better understand how their performance compares to similar companies.” The survey was conducted in the last quarter of 2016 by Mazars USA, a global accounting firm.
