Adweek’s Brand Visionary: Anna Wintour Changed Publishing and Fashion with Inimitable Style
“I have a wonderful family, and they do not think of me as an icon or a brand,” says the notoriously private Wintour, visibly wary of talking too much about herself. (Later, when asked why she doesn’t maintain a social media presence, she explains, “I just feel that’s not my responsibility in terms of the job I have. I work for Vogue and Condé Nast. I don’t work for Anna Wintour.”)
Women in Business Q&A: Anne Fulenwider, Editor in Chief, Marie Claire & Nancy Berger, VP & Publisher
Anne Fulenwider: "My first real job in New York was at the Paris Review— I was George Plimpton’s assistant, which meant that I did everything from answer his phone to type his letters to order the booze for his parties to help him finish his oral biography of Truman Capote. I learned there that even when you are doing the most menial tasks, you can pick up a lot from the people around you if you pay attention. I left there to go join Vanity Fair, where I worked my way up from assistant to senior editor..."

Medium, the text-focused publishing platform created by Twitter co-founder Evan Williams, is reinventing itself again, part of an ongoing evolution that mirrors the struggles of publishers to make money on the Internet.
Q&A with Alta California's Mark Potts
“I think we started somewhat print first, because that was Will’s (William R. Hearst III) interest, so the magazine was the bedrock and we built from there. The website was built alongside it. But we thought of it in terms of a print magazine, which is weird for me because I’m a digital guy, and I’ve spent most of the last 25 years in digital. So, going back to print was different, but fun and really interesting to create a product completely from scratch like this.” Mark Potts, managing editor.

Newspaper watchers were pleasantly surprised when the Daily Mail and General Trust, the British publisher of the Daily Mail and Mail on Sunday, announced total revenues were up 1%. “The MPA’s IMAG community prides itself on sharing and learning from one another,” said Andy Clurman, President and CEO of Active Interest Media and Chair of the IMAG Financial Benchmarking Study. “As a board, we thought a benchmarking study would be the ideal way to provide member companies with key metrics to better understand how their performance compares to similar companies.” The survey was conducted in the last quarter of 2016 by Mazars USA, a global accounting firm. Only open to members of the IMAG community, participants received two sets of detailed results: one for all respondents and one broken down by revenue tier.
