Kantar: Fake News Threatens Audience Trust in Digital Pubs
"Fake news” is threatening audiences' trust in digital-only news outlets and news shared on social media, according to a study from Kantar.

Magazine Media Spotlight: Forbes Is Shutting Down Its Opinion section
In an internal email to staff obtained by Business Insider, Forbes Media vice president Mark Coatney said the publication would eliminate its opinion section entirely, focusing instead on its "core units," and network of non-staff writers who contribute opinion pieces. "We have decided to end this section entirely on Forbes," Coatney said. "As we strive to tell stories that have a point of view, the need for a conventional opinion-style writing has lessened."

Turns Out the Flyby Reader Is More Valuable than Often Thought
New research from digital analytics firm Parsely says that people who bounce, or leave a site, after one article are more valuable than they’re given credit for, though. The findings could call into question the way a lot of publishers approach one-and-done readers, which can account for 60 to 70 percent for the typical news publisher, according to the firm.

“The MPA’s IMAG community prides itself on sharing and learning from one another,” said Andy Clurman, President and CEO of Active Interest Media and Chair of the IMAG Financial Benchmarking Study. “As a board, we thought a benchmarking study would be the ideal way to provide member companies with key metrics to better understand how their performance compares to similar companies.” The survey was conducted in the last quarter of 2016 by Mazars USA, a global accounting firm. Only open to members of the IMAG community, participants received two sets of detailed results: one for all respondents and one broken down by revenue tier.
