Travel + Leisure and CNN Team Up to Present “100 Places to Eat Like a Local”

Lexus to Sponsor New Food and Travel Editorial Collaboration
Between the Two Brands Across TV, Digital, and Print

New York, NY (November 8, 2012) – CNN and Travel + Leisure  announce the launch of “100 Places to Eat Like a Local,” a series of print, digital, and broadcast content that will tap into the appetites of people who love to eat—all around the globe.  Sponsored by Lexus across all platforms, “100 Places to Eat Like a Local” kicked off on November 1 with a special CNN iReport challenge encouraging Travel + Leisure readers and CNN users and viewers to submit their favorite local foodie spots, from tapas bars to food trucks to pizzerias and beyond, through a dedicated micro site at  The final list of the top “100 Places to Eat Like a Local”, a compilation that will interweave Travel + Leisure editorial picks with select submissions from viewers, users, and readers, will appear in the April 2013 issue of Travel + Leisure®.

The CNN iReport challenge calls for submissions by December 15 for consideration in the final “100 Places to Eat Like a Local” list.  To promote entries, Travel + Leisure Features Director Nilou Motamed and CNN anchors and correspondents will share their favorite authentic, under-the-radar haunts while encouraging readers, users, and viewers to do the same.  “100 Places to Eat Like a Local” content will be featured on, CNN’s Food Blog Eatocracy, CNN television, HLN,, and in Travel + Leisure magazine, in addition to other digital and social media channels.

Eligible entries will be reviewed by a panel of experts from Travel + Leisure.  Travel + Leisure editors will develop a comprehensive “100 Places to Eat Like a Local” guide by interweaving their own expert picks with top spots culled from select viewers’ and readers’ submissions. A final “100 Places to Eat Like a Local” list will be revealed in March to CNN and Travel + Leisure audiences and will be featured in the April 2013 issue of Travel + Leisure.

In addition to being included in the “100 Places to Eat Like a Local” report in Travel + Leisure, select viewer responses collected through iReport may also be broadcast on CNN, HLN, or online at

Through the Lexus presenting sponsorship, the automaker will showcase the new Lexus LS series in “100 Places to Eat Like a Local” and encourage consumers to leave their mark in epicurean content across print, digital, and on-air features.
