OGDEN PUBLICATIONS LAUNCHES FERMENTATION BRAND
Membership-based community explores food preservation via website, videos, print magazine and more
TOPEKA, Kan. (May 3, 2019) – Ogden Publications today launches Fermentation, a brand focused on all aspects of this food preservation method.
With the tagline “Microbes + Time = Food & Drink,” Fermentation strives to create a more robust story around the topic. It will explore various fermentation methods, from lacto-fermentation to brewing and distilling. Content will cover a wide variety of food and beverages, including cheese, meat, bread, distilled and brewed drinks, vegetables, fruits and condiments. Instead of simply sharing how-to guides and recipes, the website and each issue of the magazine will also dive into the history and the science behind fermentation processes and foods.
“This is the right time to launch Fermentation,” says Bill Uhler, publisher of Ogden Publications. “Industry research shows fermented food consumption is up 149 percent. Plus, readers of our magazines crave more information about making their own fermented foods, and our live, hands-on events consistently sell out across the country.”
Group Editor Jean Denney will oversee the brand’s editorial direction, and Senior Managing Editor Caitlin Wilson will handle day-to-day content creation. Bob Legault will direct advertising sales. Cherilyn Olmsted (circulation) and Bob Cucciniello (production and newsstand) round out the leadership team. An editorial advisory board comprised of fermentation experts from across the country will assist with content development, trend analysis and fact-checking.
Annual memberships cost $29.95 for the print or digital publication, or $34.95 for both options. Members also gain access to exclusive how-to videos, additional website content, discounts on fermentation products sold through MyFermentation.com and tickets to hands-on activities at MOTHER EARTH NEWS FAIRS, in addition to the quarterly 116-page Fermentation magazine. All website visitors can access the blog content and book excerpts, as well as subscribe to the free e-newsletter.
The premier issue of Fermentation, available Aug. 20, will be sold in Barnes & Noble and Tractor Supply Co., among other retailers. Newsstand copies will sell for $9.95. Total initial distribution will run 50,000 copies.
