ELLE IMPACT AWARDS
Hosted in Partnership with INCO AND PRESENTED BY BANANA REPUBLIC the 2019 awards luncheon took place in New York City ON MARCH 7, 2019
New York, NY (March 7, 2019) – ELLE, the world’s largest fashion brand, and INCO, the leading catalyst for social and green startups, in partnership with Banana Republic, hosted the 2019 Impact Awards to celebrate women making a difference globally on the eve of International Women’s Day. Four female entrepreneurs presented their startups which aim to provide socially conscious solutions to real-world problems. ELLE Editor in Chief Nina Garcia, judged the awards along with Brian Walsh, Chairman of the Board of CALSO Community, Gail Gershon, Sr. Director of the Gap Foundation for Banana Republic, and Flaviana Matata, model and Flaviana Matata Foundation Founder.
“The Impact Awards celebrate women who are striving to change the world through their businesses,” said Editor in Chief of ELLE Nina Garcia. “The fact that all of the businesses this year are related to conservation in some way highlights how important it is that we take care of our planet.”
Dedicated to supporting female social entrepreneurship ELLE and INCO presented The Impact Woman Entrepreneur of the Year Award to Stephanie Speirs, Founder and CEO of SOLSTICE, which allows renters and low-income consumers to access community-shared solar farms. Speirs will proceed as the American laureate at INCO’s international entrepreneurship competition at their annual world forum in Paris, Impact², where she will pitch her business project to startup experts, investors and mentors.
This is the fourth year in a row that ELLE has partnered with INCO to present the Impact Awards.
Stephanie Speirs of SOLSTICE was also the recipient of the inaugural No Boundaries Award, presented by Banana Republic, which recognizes change makers and rule breakers. Speirs was honored for pushing boundaries, creating change, impacting her community and bringing people together for a better world. Speirs received $10,000 to put towards her ground-breaking business that democratizes access to clean energy to protect the planet while also improving the financial livelihoods of families and communities.
